FOUNDATION BACKGROUND

When the Erie County Community Foundation began the process of establishment, a few of its founding members attended a school board meeting for what was then the Erie County School Board. They attended to hear a presentation promoting the idea of a community foundation in Erie County.

The idea of establishing a community foundation in Erie County was not new. With several prominent Erie County philanthropists in the audience, it wasn’t long after the presentation that the Randolph J. and Estelle M. Dorn Foundation issued the challenge grant that allowed the Erie County Community Foundation to be created.
