Carmen M. Appleby Memorial Scholarship

For current graduating seniors of Sandusky High School who will be attending Bowling Green State University main campus or BGSU Firelands

Eligibility criteria:   Preference given to students planning to major in Psychology with at least a 3.0 GPA.

Samuel R. & Anna M. Barone Scholarship

For current graduating seniors of any high school residing in Erie County, Ohio

Eligibility criteria:   Applicant is a member of the first generation of his/her immediate family to attend an accredited university or community college.  Selections will be made based on financial need and academic achievement (minimum 3.0 GPA).  

Amount of scholarship:  $1,000 minimum

Carver Family Scholarship

For current graduating seniors of Sandusky High School, two awards annually to one female and one male student

Eligibility criteria:  Financial need, demonstrated community service, and accepted full-time at an accredited university or community college.

Amount of scholarship:  $1,000 minimum

 

John & Clara Corogin Scholarship

or minority current graduating seniors of any Erie County high school

Eligibility criteria:  Financial need, desire for higher education, evidence of realistic goals, leadership potential and ability to handle college level academic work.  Outstanding academic achievements will not be a principal consideration.

Harry DeLapp Scholarship

All senior football players at Huron High School and New London High School are offered the opportunity to apply for this scholarship by the end of football season.  Two awards annually, one for a current graduating senior of Huron High School and one for a current graduating senior of New London High School.  

Eligibility criteria:  Financial need, ability to succeed academically in college; and demonstrated citizenship.  Recipients must be enrolled full-time at an accredited undergraduate university or community college.

Each applicant submits an essay about “What football has meant to them” to football coach.

Edward L. Feick Vocational Training Scholarship

For Erie County, Ohio residents who are attending or will be attending an accredited vocational training program or apprenticeship in the continental United States

Eligibility criteria:  Preference shall be given to graduates of Sandusky High School attending Erie, Huron, Ottawa Vocational Education Career Center (EHOVE).  Financial need is a consideration.   Scholarship may be renewed for a second, third or fourth year at the discretion of Scholarship Advisory Committee.

For Erie County, Ohio residents

Eligibility criteria:  Minimum 3.0 GPA required.  Preference given to graduates of Huron High School pursuing a degree in music, music education, general education (teaching), or liberal arts studies. Eligibility criteria:  Minimum 3.0 GPA required.  Preference given to academic performance or ACT and SAT scores, as well as balancing community service, athletics and work commitments.  Students demonstrating financial need and an agricultural background are given special consideration.

Thomas & Dorothy Jackson “Dare to Dream” Memorial Scholarship

For African-American current graduating seniors of Perkins High School with preference given to students residing in Searsville or Homeville areas of Perkins Township

Eligibility criteria:  Minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Recipients must be enrolled full time in 4-year accredited college or university.  Scholarship may be renewed for a second, third and fourth year with a minimum 2.5 GPA required.

Amount of Scholarship:  $2,000 first year; $1,000 second year; $500 third and fourth years

Eligibility criteria:   Student must be a varsity athlete, have demonstrated exemplary citizenship, good moral character, and financial need and accepted into an institution of higher learning in a major field of study.

Two awards annually, one for a current graduating senior of  Sandusky Central Catholic High School and one for a current graduating senior of Sandusky High School

Eligibility criteria:   Minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Recipients must enroll full-time in an undergraduate program with an accredited university or community college, with a declared major in business or medical field. Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated community service and financial need.

For current graduating seniors of any Erie County high school

Eligibility criteria:  Recipients will have a declared major in engineering and pursuing either an undergraduate or graduate degree. Preference given to students demonstrating excellent academic performance and to students with multiple siblings and/or large extended families.  Financial need is a consideration but not fully determinative.

Eligibility criteria:   Minimum 3.0 GPA required.  Financial need is a consideration and applicants must demonstrate excellent communication skills.   Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an accredited university or community college majoring in the field of business management.  A personal written request must be submitted with the application expressing the reason for and interest in the field of business management and personal reasons why they believe they should be considered.  Scholarship is renewable for a second, third or fourth year, provided the student maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA and is enrolled as a full-time student.

Camile Myers Memorial Scholarship

For female graduating seniors of Perkins High School

Eligibility criteria:  For 4-year participants in girls’ soccer; secondarily, a 3-year participant in girls’ soccer, if none exist then consideration will be given to 4-year participants in girls’ track. If multiple female seniors are eligible, the scholarship will be selected based on the student’s personal statement and letters of support.  Scholarship is available for undergraduate or graduate study and can be renewed at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

Pahl Family Scholarship

For current graduating seniors of Sandusky High School enrolled and accepted in an accredited program for teacher licensure in either elementary or secondary education 

Eligibility criteria:   Successful applicants will be students demonstrating good citizenship, a strong moral character and leadership qualities.  Students must have participated in athletic/extracurricular activities and ranked in top 25% of their graduating class.  Financial need is also considered.

For students who are attending or will attend BGSU Firelands 

Eligibility criteria:  Students who show academic promise, financial need, and reside in the Erie, Huron or Ottawa county area are given preference for this award.  The scholarship can be renewable.

For graduating seniors residing in Ohio who have competed in at least one Ohio Athletic Committee wrestling event or been members of high school football team, cheerleading squad, or cross country team

Successful applicants will be students demonstrating community service and leadership positions, academic excellence and a minimum ACT score of 25

For current graduating seniors of Perkins High School, with some consideration given but not exclusive to those who will attend The Ohio State University

Eligibility criteria:  Scholarships are available for one year of undergraduate study.  Recipients should demonstrate leadership, and the ability to handle the rigors of college.  Additional consideration may be given to students who have participated in golf, basketball, tennis, or peer leadership programs. Financial need is not a consideration.

For graduates of  any Erie County high school pursuing a degree in political science or computer technology

Sandusky Bay Kiwanis Community Services Scholarship

For current graduating seniors of Huron, Margaretta, Perkins, Sandusky, SMCC high schools and EHOVE

Eligibility criteria:  The most important criteria for this scholarship award is community service.  Successful applicants must demonstrate a history of giving back to their community.  Recipients must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

For current graduating seniors of Huron High School

Eligibility criteria:  Recipients shall have character qualities like Michelle and Ryan…a positive attitude, strong work ethic, leadership skills and good teamwork.  Recipients also shall know the importance of faith, family and friendships in their lives.  Minimum 3.0 GPA required.  Preference may be given to students planning to attend Bowling Green State University main campus or BGSU Firelands or those majoring in education or nursing.  Financial need may also be a consideration.

Speers Family Scholarship

For current graduating seniors of any Erie County high school with preference for Huron High School graduates, pursuing a post-secondary education at Bowling Green State University, preferably the Firelands Campus. Students attending the Main Campus of Bowling Green State University, The University of Toledo or Medical College of Ohio may also be considered.

Eligibility criteria:  Financial need; resident of Erie County for at least 4 years; has performed significant community service or work during the last 4 years; career plan in health care, local government, teaching or engineering (or engineering technology); will be assisting faculty at Firelands College with volunteer activities in their area of expertise (Examples:  Participated in stream monitoring of the Lake Erie Algea problem, assistance with improvement of the Erie MetroParks system, Back to the Wild, or similar activities.)  A letter of support from the involved faculty must be included with the scholarship application, if this is to be a consideration; honorably discharged from a branch of the U.S. Military.  Award may be renewed for second, third or fourth year at discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

Edward Paul Toll Scholarship

For current graduating seniors of Perkins High School

Eligibility criteria:  Two awards given annually, one to a student who is majoring in environmental studies and one to a student who plans to participate in a college athletic swimming program.  Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Preference given to students demonstrating a commitment to community service through volunteer activities.  The scholarship may be renewed and is available at any time during a student’s undergraduate education.

The Bertha & David Wiggins Scholarship

Scholarship available through a partnership with The Cleveland Foundation.  For current graduating seniors of any Erie County high school residing in Erie County who will attend a post-secondary institution in the State of Ohio.

Eligibility criteria:  This scholarship will benefit students of high scholastic achievement from as wide a racial, religious, and cultural spectrum as possible.  Successful applicants will be students whose family income might disqualify them from most financial need scholarship assistance and yet are in need of some assistance in order to attend college.

Youth Advisory Council Scholarship

For current graduating seniors who are members of the Youth Advisory Council of the Erie County Community Foundation

Eligibility criteria:  One student selected at random from among seven graduating seniors each year.  Recipient must attend accredited college, university or community college full time.

Mildred P. McCrystal Memorial Scholarship

For graduates of any Erie County high school who have completed at least 2 years at an accredited university or community college in the United States.

Eligibility criteria:  Scholarships available for undergraduate or graduate study.  Preference given to students with a declared major in the fine arts with an emphasis on music performance or music education.  Scholarship may be renewed for a second, third or fourth year at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

PEO, Chapter BE Scholarship

For female residents of Erie County, Ohio 

Eligibility criteria:  Preference is given to non-traditional-aged female students returning to school after an interruption in their education or continuing in a degree program on a part-time basis.  Financial need is a consideration.  Scholarships are available for undergraduate or graduate study and can be renewed at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

Clarence W. Seavers Citizenship Scholarship

For graduates of any Erie County high school pursuing a degree in political science or computer technology

Constance L. Smith Education Scholarship

For graduates of any Erie County high school with preference given to graduates of Edison High School in Milan, Ohio who are in sophomore, junior or senior year enrolled in a degreed program at Bowling Green State University main campus or at BGSU Firelands, with declared major in education.   

Eligibility criteria:  Consideration given to students who have successfully balanced academic, community service, and work commitments. Special consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate a strong work ethic.  Financial need may also be considered but is not a criterion for the award.

The Kenneth R. & Rhonda Hill-Watt Scholarship

For students in their last semester of their 4th year at BGSU Firelands 

Eligibility criteria:  A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.  The recipient must also demonstrate financial need by qualifying for some need-based financial assistance.
